David and His Sling
Writings:
David and His Sling
The Philistines had a mighty warrior.
He was a giant man of war.
He had been in recent battles.
He had been a victor, in many, many more.
This giant man Goliath was his name
Because of a minor coming battle
Israel would never be the same.
David was a shepherd boy.
He had never trained for war.
Goliath said, let's have a fight.
The winner takes it all
David took the challenge
He took the giant's call
Goliath saw David walking towards him with his staff
He said loud and clear,
'Am I a dog, that you come to fight me with a stick?'
He saw that David was a boy.
Is this Israel's very best?
He went to draw his mighty sword
I will slice him like a toy
He saw David with his shepherd staff
He didn't see his leather sling
'I will cut your head,' said David
I will feed your body to the beasts
Just one pebble to the middle of his head
And the giant man was dead
The boy David quickly grew in fame
It spread just like a burning flame
He soon became the nation's hero
His feats became well known
He was given powers from above
He must have made the bells of heaven ring
He was given powers from above
He received the powers of a king
God's chosen people would never be the same
Thereafter they would just rejoice and sing
For he was God's anointed
This boy David, and his sling
This battle really wasn't very fair
Goliath had great armor and his pride
But David had the God of heaven at his side
Remember, you too have also been anointed
When scary giants come
To get you in the night
You can call upon His name
David's God will always help you in your fight
